Enhancing choicesThe overall goal of the project is to reduce poverty and to enhance the choices and opportunities of the population in the project watershed areas of northern Karnataka through the restoration, improved management and sustainable use of natural resources.

By using innovative approaches and techniques and documenting them appropriately, it will contribute to the enrichment of the watershed development related practical know-how in India.

As such, the project aims at developing successful models of poverty alleviation through holistic watershed development for replication and policy influencing.

The objectives of this project are:

  • To offer opportunities for resource poor households, women and oppressed sections of the community to improve their livelihood.

  • Opportunities for the resource poor
  • To build the capacities of village communities and their institutions for improving their livelihood through sustainable natural resource management.


  • To increase groundwater recharge capacity, enhance soil fertility and promote mechanisms for sustainable management of the resources in the watershed areas.


  • To optimise and stabilise agriculture production systems in the watershed areas.
