From the press release 29.07.2005 - Signing of Agreement

"An agreement for the new initiative of building capacity of Bonthi Grama Panchayat for Integrated Natural Resource Management in Aurad Taluk, was signed between Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation & Intercooperation office, Hyderabad along with its Programme Support and Management Unit, Bangalore and the President of Bonthi Grama Panchayat Shri. R.R. Patil in the presence Mr. Anthony Mendonza, CEO, ZP, Bidar and Mr. Mallikarjun Matt, Deputy Secretary, ZP, Bidar. This is a pilot project approved by the Government of Karnataka, Ministry of Rural development & Panchyatraj in May 2005. Initially, the project period is for two years as this project is operating under ISPWDK Phase-II with the approved time period up to December 2005. However, it is envisaged that the new phase of the project may likely to commence subject to approval from SDC. The total budget approved for the pilot project is 1.5 crore to undertake capacity building, NRM, livelihood support for the poor and other need based activities of the villages coming under Bonthi GP."

"The CEO, ZP Bidar Mr. Anthony Mendoza while the signing of the project agreement said that this is one of the first prestigious projects which is supported by SDC/IC under the ISPWDK project and the responsibility of implemention and decisions reagarding on all aspects of the project will be ret with the Grama Panchayath, its Sub-committee and the ward sabhas. He said that all the stakeholders need to work towards for the successful implementation of the pilot project, which may further open possibilities of support of SDC to many more GPs in Bidar district and other districts in Karnataka State."
