Capacity building for Gramapanchyat to undertake NRM - AREA

Selection of the pilot Gram Panchayat area:

Bilateral discussions were held between RDPR (Department of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj) and SDC/IC, COOF (Coordination office, Delhi) regarding the possibility of working in a pilot watershed in one of the Northern Districts of Karnataka. On the basis of physical indicators, Bagalkot District, specifically Aihole Watershed was identified as the priority location. However, preliminary assessment revealed that the Aihole Watershed has been treated under NWDPRA. As a result, a new potential pilot Gram Panchayat area by the name of Bonthi in Aurad taluk of Bidar District was selected, based on rapid criteria jointly decided in discussions between PSMU staff and the CEO, Zilla Panchayat, and a team of senior officials in Bidar District.
