watershed rehabilitation

Watershed rehabilitation means the use of land and water resources with minimum risk to natural resources. It includes soil and water conservation methods, development of common land or wasteland, appropriate use of land resources to develop forest and fodder resources and controlled grazing to keep the land productive.

For the year 2002 to 2005, watershed rehabilitation will be taken up in Kodli, Kanchanal and Sugur (K) villages, Sugur Tanda, Seri B Tanda, and Ramnagar Tanda. A total area of 3000 Ha will be developed, which includes 2229 families. Forty two landless families and 1212 landholders will also benefit from the rehabilitation programme.

Expected results

  • Watershed rehabilitation work in 3000 Ha will be completed.
  • ITK methods will be used.
  • Soil fertility will improve and ground water table will increase.
  • There will be an increase in biomass.
  • Natural Resource Management will be effectively managed by the community.
  • The landless will be provided with labour opportunities.
