community support
The objective of this intervention is to provide support to institutions and help them meet their administration, management, salary expenses and other community need-based activities.
This objective will be accomplished by providing necessary institution support to all community based organisations (CBOs). The project will also support the community in any need-based activities emerging from crisis situations and help them take up emerging opportunities.
The priority for the year 2002 to 2005 will be seven villages; the project will provide support to five Village Development Societies (VDS), seven Watershed Management Committees (WMC), 80 Self Help Groups (SHGs) and four Grameena Mahila Aarthika Seva Kendras (GMASKs).
The expected results are:
- Support given to 10 sahayaks of VDS, WMC and GMASK.
- Annual running cost of VDS, WMC, GMASK and GGK (including travel related expenses, water, electricity charges, office stationary etc. of 19 institutions) routed through the five VDS and seven WMCs.
- Annual audit and legal expenses of five VDS.
- Need-based community activities will be supported through the five VDS in seven villages.
- Roof-water harvesting structures will be constructed in five villages.
People have been capacitated to grow in terms of financial self-reliance through Self Help Groups. The 83 SHGs in the area own funds of Rs 71.00 lakh and have borrowed Rs. 61 lakh from banks. These micro-credit institutions have grown by nearly 44 percent in the post-implementation period; their growth is significant in villages such as Manthal, Sasthapur and Gundur, which have a high concentration of agricultural labourers and marginalised people.
