watershed rehabilitation
The objective of watershed rehabilitation is to capacitate people to plan and implement appropriate restoration measures - indigenous and exogenous - to improve productivity and enhance opportunities of people in the watershed area.
Employment generation during implementation of watershed rehabilitation, intensification of agricultural production due to Natural Resource Management (NRM) and promotion of livelihoods in the post-implementation period will benefit the women, landless, skilled and unskilled work force within the village.
Focus areas for the year 2002 to 2005:
- III, IV and part of V SWS covering seven villages (two overlapping villages in Phase 1 and five Village Development Societies in Phase 2), comprising a total of 3500 ha, 1632 families, including 491 marginal farmers, 466 small farmers, 302 semi-medium farmers, 176 medium farmers and 48 large farmers.
Expected Results:
- An area of 3500 ha will be treated with different aspects such as soil and water conservation measures, horticulture, forestry etc, in mind.
- 1632 khatedars will be benefited and capacitated to take care of their natural resources.
- Employment and other livelihood opportunities will be created for the poor, landless families.
- Many assets will be created on private and common lands, which will be managed by the people.
- By involving people in suitable community based organisations (CBOs), to create assets and effectively manage them, the project will create an ideal environment for the conservation of natural resources.
