watershed development

An exposure visit for the Watershed Monitoring Committee members of Vitlapur and Tavaragera and Kanakanala Abhivruddhi Samstha Executive Committee members was organised to the NABARD watershed project in Chattar on July 29, 2002. The 21 participants met Lakshman Nayak, Secretary, Marutheshwara Jalanayana Abhivruddi Samstha, Chattar, and Bhojappa, Watershed Executive and had a detailed interaction about the NABARD Watershed project.

The objective of this visit was to give the members an understanding of the different watershed treatments adopted by NABARD, the way they prepare their action plan, the implementation, monitoring and documentation of the entire process in the NABARD watershed development. It aimed at creating awareness among group members about other watershed projects and encouraged them to share experiences about their watershed, and to learn and adopt new methods. It also involved them in the development work of other watershed projects.

An exposure trip for the Farmers Field School (FFS) farmers was organised on July 26, 2002. All the twenty farmers in the programme participated in the visit to the Agriculture College, Raichur, and Agriculture Man and Ecology, Raichur. First the farmers visited the college where they met Dr. Satish Chandra, Scientist, Soil and Water Conservation. He briefed them on the importance of soil and water conservation, different techniques of conservation, and dry land agriculture. The farmers were then taken to the demonstration plots where they observed the soil and water conservation measures implemented by the Agriculture College students. At the AME, the farmers interacted with BM Badiger, the Resource Person of AME. He told them about the FFS programme activities that AME has undertaken.
