On September 2, 2002, the shramadhan began with the active participation of 45 men and 20 women. During the shramadhan, the basri tree that was being uprooted fell on electric wires, resulting in the dislodging of two electric poles. The villagers and GS members brought this to Karnataka Electric Board's notice, and the damaged poles were repaired soon after. The shramadhan lasted four days, and a total of 165 men and 85 women participated. Lakshman Sahukar Muddalagundhi, Taluk Panchayat member, inaugurated the platform on October 2, 2002, with Hanumamma, President of Gram Panchayat, Jamlapur, presiding at the event. In his speech, Muddalagundhi stated that such programmes are a welcome activity, and can be successful only with people's participation. Later, Chennaya Swamy, SAMUHA offical, KWP, said that KWP officials were extremely pleased that this platform was built through voluntary labour, and that this village should serve as a model for other villages. advibhavi On August 19, 2002, a shramadhan was carried out in Advibhavi village to clean up the pond on the Amareshwar Temple premises, as well as the road leading to it. The village development council members joined the 35 men and 5 women who participated in this shramadhan. The stagnant water in the pond was choked with weeds, silt and slime, making it unfit for consumption. With the aim of cleaning the pond so that the water could be used for human consumption as well as for irrigation, the villagers began the shramadhan. They removed the weeds choking the pond and cleaned the tank, thereby rendering the water fit for use. They also cleared the stones that had blocked the path leading to the temple, thus making the road usable. For their labour, the villagers were paid Rs. 46 per person, as per government wages. |
