The Kanakanala Abhivruddhi Samstha (KAS) was established with the aim of providing food security to all families belonging to the Kanakanala Watershed area, and supporting the efforts of the people for overall development of the community. KAS constitutes many different layers of organisational structures: all families of the Kanakanala region join to form street groups, which in turn form village associations. Thereafter, one male and one female representative from each village association form the Kanakanala Development Association. The KAS undertakes the implementation of all necessary programmes in the villages.

The Village Development Society/Association aims to work towards the overall development of the villagers, and provide food security in tandem with watershed implementation. Though the VDS was formed for watershed development, it also undertakes other development programmes of the village, including supporting and encouraging cultural and social programmes. The VDS also undertakes the implementation of all necessary programmes in the villages.

The Watershed Management Committee (WMC) was established to develop and implement watershed development in the area, and to retain the fertility of the land. It is the responsibility of WMC to collect funds and donations for the expenses occurred in the implementation of Phase 1. They also have the responsibility of explaining to the people the work that is being done. Similarly, SAMUHA also interacts with the government and other committees, organises trainings, and conducts site visits. In Phase 2, the Village Development Committee obtained grants to form a technical group. With the aid of this group, WMC was able to implement watershed development activities.
