Advibhavi, a village in the Kanakanala area, is situated about 15 km from Tavaragera, Koppal District. It is one of the remote villages of the project. The people of Advibhavi have to depend on public transport for access to the outside world. Earlier, only one Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus plied during the entire day.
One trip at 11 am was the only chance the villagers had to get on the road to the outside world. Not surprisingly, the villagers found these commuting conditions extremely difficult. They used to travel to Jumlapur village, three km away, to catch another bus. Children had to walk miles to attend schools, and the sick had to languish without treatment because they could not get to a hospital or doctor.
Advibhavi's Village Development Society (VDS) came into existence on March 13, 2001, and decided to take some action. The committee made a request to the concerned KSRTC official to divert buses going to Muddala Gunddi village and ensure that they stopped at Advibhavi. The authorities assured the committee that the bus would be provided, if the road was suitable for buses to run. Unfortunately, the road was not in a good condition.
The VDS members decided to repair the 2.5 km-long road leading to Muddala Gunddi Village through a shramadhan (free labour). The shramadhan went on for eight days during which 623 people offered free labour. The contributions amounted to Rs. 35,400, which included labour worth Rs. 28,568, the cost of diesel, and tractor hire charges.
The Depot Manager of KSRTC, Kushtagi, personally inspected the road and arranged for an inspection of the road by his officials. The officials certified that the road was suitable for buses to ply. KSRTC issued orders for buses to operate. Now, buses make six trips a day to Advibhavi village.
The VDS members also approached the District Minister to tar the road. At the villagers' request, and on account of the shramadhan, the minister sanctioned Rs.100,000 for tarring the road. The construction of toilets for women in Advibhavi village is also in progress.
