, belonging to a middle class family, used to work as a casual labourer. Agriculture and household work were other sources of income. When she got her only son married, her daughter in law continued to work like her.
She belongs to the Dyamamma Munjavu Group in , which is 8 kms away from Tavaragere. When her Munjavu group suggested that she take up an alternative vocation, she took a loan of Rs. 4900 and started her petty shop.
Her business started off well with an income of Rs. 20 to 25 per day. But she did not stop there - when her petty shops started doing really well, she expanded her business to start a small hotel in the village!
Her earnings went up to Rs. 50, and then, Rs. 100 per day. She was able to repay her loan with interest on time. She took another loan which went into improving her petty shop and hotel business. She continues to do well and is out of the clutches of poverty. She has become the 'model' woman in her village.
There are five members in her family and she has managed to save Rs. 3135 so far. She continues to motivate her 14 Self Help Group members to take up alternate vocations for a brighter future.
