Integrated Farming System (IFS) is the process of joining together livestock, agro forestry species and crop management practices, including pest and nutrient management. SAMUHA started the IFS project with the idea that small farm agriculture, using the principles of agro-ecology, provides a practical strategy for sustainable farmer livelihood systems. We see this model as having the potential to minimise rural poverty, provide food and protect the environment and the productivity of the land.
As part of (IFS), the Kanakanala Watershed Project Farm at Tavaragere has started:
- A biogas plant of two metric tones. The community toilet complex of six units feeds the plant.
- An earthworm cultivation unit
- A fodder production-cum-demonstration unit
- A green manure production-cum-demonstration unit
- A water-lifting and micro-irrigation unit
- A stall-fed, open pen dairy unit
- A sericulture unit, comprising mulberry plantation
- A rearing house
