sustainable agriculture

Bajra harvesting and processingSustainable agriculture means producing a good crop, which is maintained year after year without a decline in soil fertility. It also has a positive impact on the environment as well as the natural resource base on which agriculture depends.

Creating a truly sustainable farming system is a difficult task and farmers must choose for themselves what methods are best for their situation.

A good sustainable agriculture system should be adaptable. It has to change over time to respond to the demands for food and fibre; its demands on natural resources; and its ability to protect the soil and other resources.

Under sustainable agriculture, SAMUHA has implemented the following programmes:

Dry Land Horticulture

Farmers Field School

Participatory Technology Development

Community Property Resources

Integrated Farming System

Integrated Nutrient / Pest Management System
