Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is a specialised directorate within the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Switzerland, and was established in 1961 with the objective of extending technical and financial assistance as well as humanitarian aid to developing countries. SDC provides bilateral and multilateral support to over 50 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, as well as through specialised organisations of the United Nations and regional development banks. SDC has developed wide ranging and constructive cooperation with partners in these countries. It has been active in India since 1963
SDC has been a pioneer in introducing innovations and new concepts in watershed development in India since the mid 1980s through the Participative Integrated Development of Watersheds (PIDOW) project involving MYRADA (NGO) and the Government of Karnataka. Major elements of this have now been accepted as standard components of the national policy on watershed development.
Intercooperation (IC)
INTERCOOPERATION (IC) is a Swiss foundation specialized in international and development cooperation. IC's principal working domains are: natural resource management (forestry, agriculture, environment), rural economy (savings and credit, small enterprise promotion, marketing of agricultural and forest products) and local governance and civil society (promotion of self-help groups and professional associations, municipal development, decentralization). IC is a knowledge organisation and an executing agency, supporting partners in more than twenty countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and East Europe. IC's principal mandator is the SDC, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Additionally, IC works with and for many other government and private, Swiss and international institutions.
