WMC

A Watershed Management CommitteeThe Watershed Management Committee (WMC) is a village level committee that executes project works related to watershed rehabilitation such as area treatment, drainage line treatment and production oriented activities under the watershed development programme in the village.

WMC is governed by the rules and regulation of the Village Development Society (VDS). The composition and tasks assigned to the WMC are village specific, e.g., the technical tasks can be taken up by a local resource persons or groups (People's Technical Resource Groups).

The members of the WMC are selected by VDS and represent the communities in the village. Each WMC is gender balanced (50% women, 50% men) and comprises representatives from the VDS governing council, categories of farmers from each of the micro watersheds, landless, Self Help Groups and user groups.

The WMC prepares action plans for land-based development activities; executes these activities; mobilises people to participate and organise local contribution; and manages the assets created through them.
