means and contribution

The three categories of direct stakeholders i.e., the people and their institutions, NGO partners and SDC/IC contribute to the project in different ways.

The people's contribution to watershed development interventions is in the form of indigenous knowledge, Shramadhanvoluntary labour (shramadhan) and participation (members of the governing councils, management committees, resource persons etc). However, certain identified tasks taken up by local people towards the execution of development activities such as contribution of local resource persons during planning, work of the animators, work of the village executives during implementation of the rehabilitation works etc, are compensated.

For the watershed rehabilitation activities on private property, the landowners provide an 'own contribution' of 25% of the project costs. The people's contribution for the treatment of common property resources is 10%. The 'own contribution' is in the form of labour, material or cash.

Appropriate systems and procedures have been developed to ensure that the 'own contribution' and 'people's contribution' is mobilised and properly recorded. The funds thus generated will be used to build up a fund for maintenance at the level of the VDS.

The NGO partners contribute through their knowledge and expertise, networks and infrastructure.

The Swiss contribution is through programme funds and expertise at the level of PSMU. SDC/IC makes funds available to the VDS, NGOs and PSMU to meet programme costs and administrative costs for the implementation of development activities as per action plans and budgets approved by the PSC on a call forward basis for a specific period. In addition to funds for programme implementation and administration, SDC/IC provides the part time services of an International Advisor (who also has other tasks outside the project) and international consultancies to the project as necessary.
