First official Gram
Sabha at Allapur

Place: Allapur village, MYRADA-ISPWDK Project, Kodli

Purpose: To attend the first official Gram Sabha

Process & Observation:

The Allapur village is located interior, 9kms from the Kodli village. The access road is very difficult, which gets almost cut off from other villages during the monsoons. We went by MYRADA jeep, which has four wheels drive to reach the village. The only mode of transportation is by horses and donkeys. It was informed that maintaining these animals is also difficult as they go to Kodli only 2 days in a week. There is shortage of fodder to feed them on other days.

There are 66 households in the village. There is a primary school in the village. Only one teacher from Hassan is there, the other teacher is transferred. There are two women SHGs started three years back. One has 15 & other has 17 members. They got linked with the bank and got Rs. 15,000 each as loan.

1. Previous meeting details

One person from the group wanted clarification on the failure of bore well. It was informed that with the support of best geologist also, the bore well dug was dry. The villagers asked MYRADA to organize for a status report on why the borewell failed from the geologist, present to the authorities and also present in next meeting.

The Gram Sabha started at 12.30 pm. Men slowly started gathering after returning from the field and women finishing the household choruses. There were around 75 people with about 15-20 women from Allapur village. Mr. Kalyanshetti, Vivekanand, Umesh, Parmeshwar, Siraj Mohammad from MYRADA and Mr. Nelson Royal from PSMU attended the meeting. After the prayer song by a women and introduction of MYRADA staff & PSMU member, Mr. Kalyanshetti put forth the proposed agenda for the meeting. The chairperson, Mr. Revansiddappa was nominated by villagers. Kalyanshetti mentioned that this is a first official Gram Sabha and the decisions taken here would be final to initiate the activities under Allapur watershed on loan basis.
