Objectives and Methodology


Objectives

  • To study/collect preliminary information about the area, people, social composition and other demographic features relevant for the project
  • To understand the GPs style of functioning, power structures and focus areas of work
  • To understand the functional institutions/committees that are in the villages under the Gram Panchayat

Methodology

The study is basically a qualitative exercise based on primarily qualitative data and analysis. Both the primary and the secondary data were collected from various relevant sources. Primary data were collected through semi-structured interviews, group discussions and focused group discussions, PRA techniques, observation and interviews with key informants to get the responses and views of the respondents. Case study and events relating to the functioning of Gram Panchayat were gathered to strengthen the trends discerned from secondary and primary data. Secondary information was gathered from Panchayat records, proceedings of Village Panchayat, official records of various village institutions, census report etc.
