Findings of the study were:
- At least 90% of the energy consumption in rural households is from biomass.
- Predominance of the fuel wood and crop residue for cooking.
- Erratic power supply and un-electrified households lead to the use of traditional wick lamps, which have poor luminance.
- The soot from these lamps are harmful to health.
- People use considerable amount of Kerosene for lighting purpose, across all land-holding groups.
- Cooking devices used are traditional devices like chulhas. They not only consume more fuel wood, but women inhale the smoke emanated from the chulhas during cooking.
- The ventilation in the houses in the villages is very poor putting all family members to health risks through exposure to indoor pollution.
- Family members involved in the drudgery of collection of fuel wood are women and children.
