Scope for the Future
- The study brought out the importance of looking at the energy situation at the village/watershed level at the time of micro plan with the communities in order to know the status of energy resources and accordingly the project could facilitate and plan for interventions.
- However, the methodology adopted for energy studies could be refined in such a way to adopt for planning in any watershed programme in India. Here is a scope for new development agenda points in NRM/Watershed development.
- The smokeless oven interventions were introduced long ago and some of us were involved in the 1980's and the presentation made by TERI on the introduction of smokeless oven in PRAWARDA has undergone the refinement in technology with the suggestions made by the women to cook jowar rotti. This is what we call the participatory technology development where in the need and appropriateness of the people's requirement in to the process of developing technology.
- Also there is an awakening in the minds of people how important to have proper, health friendly lantern which cost very cheap and the people can very well buy with their own money. What is needed a bit of motivation and convincing demonstration to the people and some capacity building initiatives such as training the local women, men and youths in propagating the benefits of these energy saving instruments. Also the local women and men could very well trained in the construction of the smokeless oven by involving the CBOs: SHGs, VDS and other apex level institutions like MACS, GMASS and RCs.
- It is also possible to demonstrate to the government departments and influence their policies to promote biomass based, energy efficient interventions in the semi-arid regions.
