capacity building

The strategy behind capacity building is to capacitate staff, institutions such as the Village Development Society (VDS), other community based organisations (CBOs) and the community.

PRAWARDA aims at capacitating village communities, local leadership, resource persons and paratechnicians in each focus area in the Upper Mullamari watershed to make them the main actors in their own development.

Technical Knowledge trainingFor the project staff, capacity building will cover broad areas such as institution building, training of trainers (TOT), moderation skills, organisation development (OD), documentation skills etc., as well as specific thrust areas such as watershed rehabilitation, agriculture production, livelihood promotion and community support activities.

For the community, capacity building will be in terms of covering larger masses in the village so as to keep the entire village appraised of the project. The purpose is to create awareness among the villagers regarding the project, people's role as actors in the development process, the benefits of each institution in the village etc.

People's capacity building will be focus on building local leaders, resource persons and paratechnicians through skill trainings to representatives and local resource persons of various CBOs.

Trainings as well as other capacity building efforts will be planned with a conscious effort to address gender and equity issues. In fact, women, poor landless farmers and the marginalised are the main targets of the community capacity building programmes. At the organisational level, a suitable staff pattern is being worked out to meet this challenge.

Sustainability of this intervention is evident at the organisational level where experts and resource persons have developed in various areas. At the village level, local leaders, resource persons and paratechnicians are expected to take over the role of the staff after the project is completed.
