Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) means developing cost-effective, simple and reliable methods of matching nutrient supply to the crop demand. This will help the farmer increase and stabilise yields without adverse environmental or social consequences.
The objective of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is to manage the insect population and reduce the pest status to a tolerable level. Complete elimination of a pest may not be possible or desirable. Conservation of the environment is an important element of IPM.
In Tavaragere, INM and IPM are implemented together. SAMUHA is promoting an intercrop system to control pest levels. The seeds are treated with Azo Spyrillum to check diseases. There is a yearly application of manure to the crops.
Farmers are advised to plough across the slope to preserve soil quality and educated on vermin compost preparation. Awareness campaigns are conducted regularly.
